What is your current mental model?

meta mental models

Mental models help me create understanding, systems, and solutions. I've also noticed that they change — so when I revisit a model, it's a snapshot of where I was at that time. What do you think:

- Are mental models really changing?
- What does it mean to you if they are?

Your thought

My thought

As I said above, in my opinion they change. This means they aren't perfect, which helps me understand that I can't create perfect understanding. It also means there's a gap — that I'm wrong somewhere. And being wrong means two things to me:

- It feels like freedom, because I don't have to be right — I can't be perfectly right anyway.
- If a mental model isn't perfect, its precision can still be improved.

What do you think happens to a fairly good model when you change the frame of reference? Will it still be right? Will it change?
